SIG United Nations Global Compact

The United Nations Global Compact is an initiative platform established by the United Nations in July 2000 to promote sustainable actions by global businesses in areas such as human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. The members of the United Nations Global Compact include various stakeholders such as businesses, non-governmental organizations, labour unions, academic institutions, and others. Members are required to commit to 10 principles that cover areas such as human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. By signing up for the Global Compact, businesses commit to integrating these principles into their operations and strategies, and to reporting publicly on their performance in these areas. The United Nations Global Compact has played an important role in promoting global sustainable development.

Taking the Lead

SIG Group Holding's UN Global Compact Journey

The United Nations Global Compact is the world's largest corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiative, with more than 20,000 corporate participants and other stakeholders in over 167 countries. The UN Global Compact is a non-binding United Nations pact to get businesses and firms worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies and to report on their implementation.

The UN Global Compact was announced by then UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in an address to the World Economic Forum in 1999 and was officially launched at UN Headquarters in New York City in 2000. The Global Compact is built upon ten universally accepted principles in human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. This groundbreaking initiative brings together companies, organizations, and stakeholders from around the world to promote sustainable and responsible business practices.

Since 2018, the Founder and Chairman of SIG Group Holding, Shelley Tsang, has proudly signed and participated in the United Nations Global Compact, uniting visionary companies committed to driving positive change. We have integrated the ten principles of the UNGC across our operations, from respecting human rights and promoting fair labour practices to championing environmental stewardship and combating corruption.

Investing in knowledge for sustainable futures

Greening the Supply Chain

Focusing on sustainable procurement practices, this project encourages businesses to adopt environmentally responsible approaches throughout their supply chains. The United Nations Global Compact collaborates with companies to develop guidelines, share best practices, and implement strategies to reduce carbon emissions, conserve resources, and minimize waste. By promoting sustainable sourcing and production, this project aims to create a more resilient and environmentally conscious business ecosystem.

Anti-Corruption Efforts

Combating corruption is crucial for promoting transparent and accountable business practices. In this project, the United Nations Global Compact collaborates with organizations to develop anti-corruption policies, strengthen governance frameworks, and raise awareness about the damaging effects of corrupt practices. By promoting ethical conduct, promoting transparency, and implementing robust anti-corruption measures, this project strives to create a business environment that fosters trust, integrity, and sustainable development for all.

Integrity as the cornerstone of sustainable progress.

Climate Action for the Future

This project focuses on mobilizing businesses to take ambitious action against climate change. The United Nations Global Compact works with companies to set science-based targets, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to renewable energy sources, and build climate resilience. By promoting sustainable practices, advocating for policy changes, and facilitating knowledge exchange, this project aims to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and mitigate the impacts of climate change, safeguarding the planet for future generations.
